If you've got the dosh to spare you might as well give it a crack. For example, I'm sad that the cover system has been simplified from both games (from directional or various types of cover and terrain to bubble-shields and odd 'stealth' patches.Įlites and doctines (army-wide effects) are locked behind an in-game currency ('skulls') earned by campaign progress and multiplayer - BUT you can earn the 'skulls' playing MP v bots, so you don't HAVE to play PvP (which is good) but the grind is still pretty pointless. Currently it's all a bit one-dimensional in areas where 1 and 2 already had good systems - why they removed them IDK. The units etc are covered in Dante's post nicely. Units are very nicely detailed and has good 'epic' feel. Unit movement is very cool, esp for Eldar. Well before it's moved elsewhere - my $0.02 Which is probably the biggest reason this game is getting so much hate, because some people wanted the game to be more like 1 or more like 2. So if anything, it mixes a bit of Dawn of War 1 with Dawn of War 2.

These units can't be recruited but rather "timed" into the match/game via Elite points (elite points are earned every 1 min and you can choose which elite you want to spawn first ) and there can only be 3 max at a time. Elites are basically similar to Dawn of War 2, units that are either single entity heroes or squads of veteran units such as Terminators/Deathwatch/Venerable Dreadnought/Titans. What the game focuses on heavily is the coordination between "Elites" and regular units. There are also fewer units than previous games (mostly because top tier infantry are classed as unrecruitable elites) 1 main building, 2 infantry building, 1 special building, 1 mech building, and 1 tech building. You would have basically a few base buildings. So, to get back on your statement, what do you want from the game? If you want dynamic basebuilding, it will be lacking there as there are fewer building options (they removed buildable turrets for example). I've played the campaign and mutiplayer and I can for certain that if anything Dawn of War 3 mixes parts of Dawn of War 1 with 2.ĭespite the amount of hate this game had (which I find many to be unwarranted such as the fact of comparing the game to Starcraft II, which if anyone ever played starcraft would've called out outright bullshiit on the argument), the game overall is not bad, its pretty above average, but its far form amazing and since it held the title of "Dawn of War", people hyped it to hell and wanted to be amazing.
